A natural, untreated Yemeni agate cut as a tall oval cabochon. The body is a deep plum-brown of the kind the Yemeni trade calls Kabdi, lit by a milky white patch near the crown and a soft rust-red cloud at the centre. The dome is high and the polish is bright, so the stone reads differently as the hand turns.
The mount is sterling silver, worked by hand. A rope-twist collar scalloped around the bezel holds the stone, and the shoulders are built up with fine granulation, polished teardrop drops and a leaf finial at the head. A small faceted black stone is set on each shoulder as a quiet counterpoint to the warm agate. The recesses are oxidised so the raised work stands out.
One piece, one stone, sized about US 10.
