The stone is a natural, untreated Yemeni agate, near-black with a deep navy cast that only strong light reveals, cut as a high oval cabochon and polished to a glassy finish.
The 925 sterling silver bezel is wrapped in a twisted rope. The shoulders are hand-engraved with spirals and palmette-like scrolls against a blackened ground, bordered by rope lines that run along the edges of the shank. The back of the head carries a complete engraved medallion: a hexagonal star at the centre, ringed by interlaced knot loops and quatrefoils, a detail seen only by the wearer.
