The stone is a natural, untreated Yemeni agate in a black so deep that only strong light finds a faint violet glint at its edge. It is cut as a large, tall oval cabochon and polished to a mirror finish.
The 925 sterling silver bezel is kept plain so the shoulders can do the work: a dense, hand-engraved arabesque of leaf scrolls, fleur-shaped trefoils and small blossoms, blackened in the recesses and running down the sides of the shank. A narrow sawtooth band separates the bezel from the engraving.
The darkest stone in the tray, carried by the busiest silver.
