A large oval of deep red Yemeni agate, translucent and even, of the kind the market calls Ahmar.
The sterling silver frame is engraved with slanted, rope-like hatching and finished with a fine beaded edge. On each shoulder a lion’s head looks outward, its mane carved in relief, flanked by laurel sprays and a small flower on a darkened ground. The work is solid and clean, with more polish than pierce.
A lion crowned with laurel, guarding a red stone.
