A large oval of pale, translucent Yemeni agate of the kind the market calls Musawwar, or picture agate. Through its soft grey runs an ochre and brown inclusion that reads like a desert ridge under haze.
The sterling silver frame is worked in a grid of tiny squares, and the shoulders are filled with raised dots, polished teardrops and a braided rope over a darkened ground.
Every picture agate is its own scene; this one exists once.
