A natural, untreated picture agate from Yemen, cut as an oval cabochon. Within a clear grey body the inclusions settle into a scene: a band of rust-red and ochre ground along the lower half, white clouds drifting above it, and a single green moss speck in the open sky. Musawwar stones of this kind are found, not made, and no two carry the same view.
The sterling silver mount answers the scene with architecture. The shoulders are cut as courses of brick with oxidised joints, framed by a beaded rail around the bezel, and on the shank a small mosque dome and minaret rise in relief. The work is crisp and the oxidation keeps every course legible.
One piece, one stone, sized about US 10.
