A large, high-domed oval of Yemeni agate in the dark wine-red the market calls Kabdi. It looks almost black at rest and glows red wherever the light passes through its edges.
The sterling silver mount is a small carved scene. On each shoulder a leaping hare rises in relief among branches, palm fronds and flowers, picked out against a darkened ground, and a line of silver beads follows the bezel.
A ring that rewards a closer look.
